SERENDIPITY STUDIOS

Senior Project - 2024

INSPIRING JOY, INTENTIONALITY, & THE WHIMSICAL.

As a designer and person, I strive to connect with others and bring them joy amidst the chaos of life. The goal of Serendipity Studios is exactly that, combining illustration and design to inspire others through vibrant colors and fun sayings. It is important to me for my designs throughout this project to be cohesive and aesthetically consistent, fulfilling the image of a stationery company you would find in stores or online.

There are five main components to this project: greeting cards, journals, wrapping paper, gift tags, and match boxes. To provide a complete experience for customers, I developed branding and packaging unique to Serendipity Studios. I designed and illustrated all of the components myself, excluding a few patterns and photographs. The line of products features a variety of topics and imagery, as well as, a mix of hand-done and set type. I hand crafted and packaged the greeting cards, journals, gift tags, and match boxes, but outsourced the wrapping paper to be printed.

In a world where technology is our default, I aspire to bring back the art of analog.

GREETING CARDS

Each of the 15 greeting cards has front design, a saying on the inside, and the studio's logo on the back. When evaluating how I was going to package each card, I chose to add a preview of the saying on the back. When packaged in a cellophane sleeve, with an enveloped tucked inside, customers would be able to see what the card says on the inside.

JOURNALS

The three journals included in the line are designed with the intent of inspiring people to doodle, journal, or just use it for everyday use. Each one has a full color cover, a logo on the back, and blank pages inside. I wanted each one to be unique, but work well with the others.

WRAPPING PAPER

For the wrapping sheets, I explored the art (and challenge) of repeating patterns to create these three fun, versatile designs. My goal was to create something that could be used for a variety of occasions, making it nonseasonal, similar to the rest of the line.

GIFT TAGS

Gift tags (in my opinion) are the cherry on top of a gift, letting someone know you thought of them when selecting the gift. Gift-giving happens for many reasons, emphasizing the need for a variety of topics. I wanted a few of them to not be specific to a certain celebration, but more of a general, multi-use tag. Each tag comes prepunched and with a ribbon for tying to a gift.

MATCH BOXES

The final component of my senior project was 2 match boxes. As of lately, it has been rare to see a match box just lying around. These small, giftable boxes can carry a large impact, telling someone you care about them. Each box is full color with a design on the front and the logo on the back, as well as, a striker and 18 matches ready for use.

GALLERY SETUP

The final part of senior project was displaying my work in the on-campus art gallery. I built displays for the space to provide a store-like experience for visitors. During the final reception, I sold a portion of my work to those who were interested.
